Posterous FTW!

More and more people are using Posterous currently. And it is not difficult to imagine why.

Posterous is, quite literally, dead-simple. Just email your stuff, be it text, movies, images, documents, sounds, and it'll be published in a great way for everybody, or only the people you want to, to read. And the user support from Sachin and Gary is also excellent!

My whole web "life" is now centered around Posterous; I've set up 4 Posterous sites:
http://post.marcof.net - my main posterous where I keep my blog
http://pix.marcof.net - my photography portfolio
http://bibble-expert.com - the site where I want to post tips about Bibble 5

And last, but not least:
http://tweets.marcof.net - my tweesterous site where I put all my tweetpics.

The Posterous API enables twitter clients to post images to Posterous.

I've been using Tweetie on my iPhone for a long time, but that one still doesn't support Posterous.

However, an excellent alternative (with some quirks, but that's being worked on) is SimplyTweet (to be found here: http://motionobj.com/simplytweet ). SimplyTweet not only supports the Posterous API, but it is (I think) the only one that fully supports the multi-image posting in a correct way, namely not a post per image, but a post with all images for that post/tweet included.

Now all that needs to be implemented to make it even cooler for tweeting is:

  • API search possibilities
  • a way to have tweet text inside the body instead of post header
  • an alternative to "twitlonger". Use posterous for longer than 140 character tweets.

And possibly more neato stuff....

In any case, the future looks bright for Posterous, it's about time to conquer the world!

Oh, I'm still waiting for Posterous merchandise ;-)

Test Post from Tweetie(Mac)

It uses Posterous instead of TwitPic.. which is superb! Posterous FTW!

I do wish some more configurability though - my tweet text isn't visible on posterous, the post title is generic "posted on YYYY-MM-DD".

There's a new twitter client in town: Nambu

Today, the Nambu Network released a much needed update to their native Mac OS X Twitter client Nambu.

A lot of sophisticated twitter clients are written in Adobe AIR. This has the advantage that that client can run on multiple platforms, but also has certain disadvantages like that the UI isn't like a real Mac (or Windows) program, and the behaviour of the application can be different than a native app.

So, after trying Twhirl, TweetDeck I ended up installing and running Nambu, and haven't looked back since.

The new update includes a new UI, which allows for multi-column view. You can add or remove columns at will and you can also re-order them. The UI is nice and clean, and easily readable, in contrast to TweetDeck for instance, which makes my eyes hurt trying to read it.

Another new addition is the use of friend groups. Here you can create groups of twitter friends so you can follow only those specific tweet updates.

The application also has a lot a bugfixes and seems faster too.
However, there are still some things missing, but the developers seem to be keen to listen to people and implement desired (if useful) functionality pretty soon.
Personally I'd like to have a threaded discussion view, or at least a way of going through replies in an organised way.
Also, you cannot put your friend groups in the column view.

What can I say, if you want to use a nice and native Twitter client on OSX, Nambu is a good step in the right direction. It's not fully grown up yet, but it has a lot of potential.
